Welcome to Year Four’s page.
Year Four is taught by Mr Evans with support from Mrs Abbott.
In Year Four this term:
This half term we are focusing on story writing and report writing. Both of these will be linked to our Topic of being ‘determined to succeed’.
The children will be looking at a story called “Amazing Grace” and writing their own version of overcoming a problem. They will also be writing a report about the Olympics. This provides children with a chance to practice and apply grammar skills learnt during the year so far whilst applying new vocabulary and grammar foci.
Reading is an integral part of your child’s development.Please ensure you read or listen to your child every day and make a comment in their reading journal at least three times a week.
Reading journals will be checked every Thursday.
This half term the children will be focusing on fractions, measurement and calculations. After half term the children will be consolidating and applying their calculation skills in a range of different contexts and problem solving situations.
To support your child at home, please ensure they are practicing their times tables regularly. By the end of Year 4, children are expected to know all of their times tables and the related division facts.
This half term our Topic is about being ‘Determined to Succeed’. As part of this, the children will be learning about the Ancient Olympics and comparing to the Olympics in modern times.
Linking to being ‘determined to succeed’ the children will also look at the Paralympics and the Olympic values that Olympians and Paralympians have to abide by.
After half term, the new topic will be about “searching for the truth”.
This term the children will be learning about Living Things and their Habitats. They will be learning about different classifications of animals and where they live. How animals adapt to their environment and different characteristics of classifications of animals.
In Year 4 children have P.E on a Monday and Outdoor Learning on a Friday. Please ensure your child has their kit in school on these days.
The children will be looking in depth at the Buddhist faith and comparing similarities and differences with the Christian faith.
One activity from the homework grid should be done and returned to school by Thursday each week.
Spelling homework will go out every Monday and the children will be tested on these words every Thursday.
Miss Garrett will work with the children every Monday morning teaching the children P.E and computing.
