Welcome to Year Three
Welcome to Year Three's page
Year Three is taught by Miss Bridgman with support from Mrs Prendergast.
In Year Three this term:
This half term we are focusing on story writing and report writing. Both of these will be linked to our Topic of being ‘Determined to Succeed’.
The children will be looking at a story called ‘The Stone Age Boy’ and writing their own version of this story. They will also be writing a report about the Ancient Olympics.
This provides children with a chance to practise and apply grammar skills learnt during the year so far whilst applying new vocabulary and grammar foci.
Reading is an integral part of your child’s development. Please ensure you read or listen to your child every day and make a comment in their reading journal at least three times a week.
Reading journals will be checked every Thursday.
This half term the children will be focusing on fractions and calculations. After half term the children will be focusing on measurement. They will also be consolidating and applying their calculation skills in a range of different contexts and problem solving situations.
To support your child at home, please ensure they are practicing their times tables regularly. By the end of Year 4, children are expected to know their 3, 4 and 8 times tables and the related division facts.
This half term our Topic is about being ‘Determined to Succeed’. As part of this, the children will be learning about the Ancient Olympics and comparing to the Olympics in modern times. Linking to being ‘determined to succeed’ the children will also look at the Paralympics and the Olympic values that Olympians and Paralympians have to abide by.
After half term, the new topic will be about ‘Searching for the Truth’.
This half term the children will be learning about ‘Light and Shadow’. They will be able to recognise that they need light in order to see things and that dark is the absence of light t and investigate shadows and how their shapes change.
After half term we will be focusing on ‘Plants’. We will be identifying and describing the functions of different parts of flowering plants and exploring the requirements of plants for life and growth.
In Year 3 children have P.E on Thursdays with a P.E coach and Fridays with Miss Garratt. Please ensure your child has their kit in school on these days.
The children will be focusing on creating unity and being courageous.
One activity from the homework grid should be done and returned to school by Thursday each week.
Spelling homework will go out every Tuesday and the children will be tested on these words every Friday.
Miss Garratt will teach 3B every Friday.
